While a pursuing a degree is extremely important, it can also be expensive. Listed on this page are fourteen scholarships worth applying to. Some give preference to Hispanic/Latino or minority students. Many are merit- or financial-need based. HSF Scholarship Hispanic Scholarship Fund Eligibility:
Haz La U Program (Youth Awards) Colgate-Palmolive & the Hispanic Heritage Foundation Eligibility:
current high school senior
at least a 3.0/4.0 GPA
be of Hispanic heritage (includes Spain, Brazil, the Philippines)
must attend regional awards ceremony if accepted (ours is in Houston so travel expenses are low)
US citizen, permanent resident, or DACA recipient
excel in one or more of the following categories: Business & Entrepreneurship, Community Service, Education, Healthcare & Science, Media & Entertainment, Technology & Engineering
Amount:
Regional Youth Awards recipients receive a grant of between $1,000 and $3,500 to fund either their college education or a community service effort
National Youth Awards also receive an all expenses paid trip to the National Youth Awards ceremony
The Gates Scholarship The Gates Scholarship Eligibility:
current high school senior
a minority
Pell-eligible (look up Pell Grants - essentially low-income, among other requirements)
US citizen, permanent resident, or national
minimum 3.3/4.0 GPA
Amount:
the scholarship will pay the cost of attendance that is not already covered by other financial aid & the expected family contribution as determined by the FAFSA
