We’re now offering volunteer hours in exchange for writing and sending a letter of support to detained immigrants as part of the “Hope Can’t Be Quarantined” campaign. 3 letters = 30 min. Follow the guide below to make and mail your letters!
Things to remember: - the letter can be in Spanish, English, or any other language as specified on page 4 of this toolkit - don't include your personal address - follow the special instructions of the organization you send your letters to Not much to do during quarantine? Check out this toolkit, created by Lutheran Immigration and Refugee Service, that details how detained immigrants are affected by the COVID-19 outbreak and how you can help!
"What you can do today: Write, pray, donate, learn, share." Our favorite pages of this toolkit are page 2, which gives instructions and sample phrases for sending a letter of support, and page 4, which has links to great resources where you can learn more about US immigration detention. LASA had its first major event of the year today! We partnered with Spanish Honor Society and wrote letters to children in ICE detention. This event was modeled after TODEC's #LettersofLovetoKids campaign. In total, more than 200 beautiful letters were made.
